Bespoke Reclamation and Demolition Assistance on Prestigious Residential Redevelopment
The 5,000m² former Odeon Cinema in Kensington was one of London’s most high-profile redevelopment sites — surrounded by luxury residences and operating under tight logistical and environmental constraints.
ProAltus was engaged by main contractor JF Hunt to deliver a safe, effective rope access solution for the removal and reclamation of historic timber beams, following the dismantling of roofing materials including asbestos cement boards.
Key Delivery Highlights
Rope access-based removal of approx. 1,500m² of 3-ply roofing and asbestos cement boards
No scaffold required, eliminating disruption and significant cost
Controlled PPE conditions for asbestos removal
Safe lowering of timber beams for reuse
Completed on time against a critical project deadline
“ProAltus were able to manage and adapt to the complex requirements of the site, designing and delivering a cost-effective solution.” — Tony Swanwick, Commercial Manager, JF Hunt
Approach & Outcome
The project demanded precision, safety, and speed. PVC cladding and asbestos boards were removed by ProAltus operatives trained in both rope access and hazardous material handling, working under stringent PPE conditions.
Once cleared, ProAltus managed the controlled removal and lowering of heritage timber structures from the roof — a key requirement for the build’s sensitive transformation.
