Facade Repair & Debris Containment in Knightsbridge

Project type: Facade Repari / Debris Containment / Rope Access

Location: Knightsbridge, London

Sector: Residential / Heritage

Services: Rope Access, Façade Remedials, Tensioned Netting Systems, Work-at-Height Planning

Safe, Precise Façade Work in a Sensitive Urban Environment

This prestigious Knightsbridge property required a combination of façade repairs and a high-specification debris-netting containment system to safely manage the works on a live, tightly constrained residential street. With limited space for traditional access methods and the need to minimise disruption for occupants and neighbours, rope access offered the safest, most efficient solution.

During early surveys, a number of issues were identified: deteriorated areas of render, loose material at height, and several elevations requiring controlled containment during remedial works. These conditions presented a risk to the public realm below and demanded a methodology fully aligned with current UK work-at-height guidance and British Standards.

ProAltus was appointed to design and deliver a safe, engineered approach that combined technical rope access expertise with a robust debris-management strategy.

Project Goals

The project required a solution that would:

  • Safely access all façade elevations without scaffold

  • Repair defective render and address high-level deterioration

  • Install a tensioned debris-netting containment system to manage falling-object risks

  • Maintain compliance with key British Standards for work at height

  • Minimise disruption to residents, neighbours, and the surrounding public areas

  • Deliver a clean, efficient programme suitable for a busy Knightsbridge setting

Our Solution

ProAltus designed an integrated façade repair and containment solution driven by best practice and fully aligned with:

  • BS 7985 – Rope Access

  • BS 8560 – Planning for Work at Height

  • BS 8410 – Façade Maintenance

This standards-led approach ensured a safe, controlled methodology throughout.

Rope Access Delivery (BS 7985)

All high-level works were carried out via industrial rope access, enabling:

  • Fast, minimally disruptive access to all elevations

  • Precise positioning for inspection and remedial tasks

  • Continuous control of tools, materials, and work zones

  • Safe execution in tight areas where scaffold was impractical

Rope access also significantly reduced environmental impact and avoided imposing large temporary structures on the residential surroundings.

Façade Repairs & Remedial Works

Our technicians carried out targeted repairs to defective render and localised sections of the façade, including:

  • Removal of loose or delaminated areas

  • Preparation and reinstatement of affected surfaces

  • Detailed inspections to ensure structural stability

  • Finishing works to protect exposed areas

These repairs restored integrity to the façade and reduced ongoing maintenance risks.

Tensioned Debris-Netting Containment System

To manage falling-object risks during the remedial programme, ProAltus installed a high-tension containment netting system, engineered to integrate cleanly with the building while maintaining airflow and light penetration.

Key features included:

  • Strong, UV-stabilised containment netting

  • Secure fixing points designed around the façade geometry

  • Tensioned framework ensuring tight, professional appearance

  • Compliance with BS 8560 and BS 8410 for façade works and public protection

This system provided a reliable safety envelope around the work zones without affecting residents’ visibility or creating unnecessary obstruction.

Key Features of the System

  • Rope access works delivered in accordance with BS 7985

  • Work-at-height planning fully aligned with BS 8560

  • Façade maintenance following principles of BS 8410

  • Tensioned netting system providing controlled containment

  • Minimal public disruption in a high-profile, urban setting

  • Clean, precise installation led by experienced Level 3 technicians

Results

The project delivered a safe, efficient façade remediation package that now provides:

  • Stabilised and repaired façade surfaces

  • A fully controlled environment for ongoing works

  • Reduced risk to residents, workers, and the public

  • A professional, unobtrusive containment system

  • A methodology fully aligned with relevant British Standards

  • A smooth, disruption-free programme in a challenging location

The building now benefits from improved façade integrity and a carefully engineered approach to managing future remedial operations at height.
